Surveys

At NIMA Marine, we offer a range of professional marine surveys tailored to your specific needs. Whether you’re purchasing a vessel, renewing insurance, or assessing damage, our experience ensures accurate, reliable results every time.

Pre-Purchase/Phase-out Survey

A Pre-Purchase / Phase-Out Survey is a comprehensive inspection conducted before purchasing a vessel or removing it from a charter or management program. Often required by insurers or financiers, this survey evaluates hull integrity, structural components, propulsion systems, plumbing, electrical systems, navigation equipment, and all safety gear.

Our detailed report identifies deficiencies and deferred maintenance, and includes a fair market valuation to support negotiations, budgeting, or contract closure. A haul-out and sea trial are highly recommended to complete the picture. This survey gives you the insight you need to make a confident investment or negotiation decision.

Insurance Survey

Required by most insurers, the Insurance (Condition & Valuation) Survey assesses the vessel’s overall condition, including structural integrity, propulsion systems, onboard systems, and safety equipment.

We also evaluate the level of maintenance, record of repairs and upgrades, and compliance with applicable safety standards. The report includes both a current market value and replacement cost, and highlights any deficiencies that could affect insurability. This ensures your vessel meets underwriter requirements and helps prevent delays in policy issuance or renewal.

Damage Survey

When a vessel sustains damage from a collision, allision, grounding, fire, severe weather, or other incident, a Damage Survey provides essential documentation for insurance claims, legal matters, or repair planning.

We assess and document the probable cause, nature, and extent of the damage, including detailed photographs and repair recommendations. Our impartial reports help expedite claims processing and ensure accurate, defensible repair estimates.

Cargo Survey

Cargo surveys are essential in commercial shipping, especially when liability or damage claims arise. We inspect cargo condition and handling practices during loading, transit, and discharge—verifying packaging, securing methods, and compliance with applicable transport regulations.

Our reports help protect both shippers and consignees by minimizing risk, documenting any loss or damage, and supporting claims or dispute resolution processes.

Valuation Survey

A Valuation Survey determines the current fair market value or replacement cost of a vessel, typically for financing, tax planning, estate settlement, or charitable donation.

Unlike condition surveys, it focuses exclusively on vessel specifications, comparable market sales, and current industry data. Our valuation reports are professionally formatted, well-supported, and trusted by lenders, insurers, and legal professionals.
