Pre-Purchase / Phase-Out Survey
A Pre-Purchase or Phase-Out Survey is a comprehensive inspection conducted prior to purchasing a vessel or removing it from a charter or management program. This survey is often required by insurers or financiers and provides a detailed assessment of the vessel’s overall condition.
The inspection covers hull integrity, structural components, propulsion systems, steering, plumbing, electrical systems, navigation equipment, and all required safety gear. Our report identifies deficiencies, deferred maintenance, and areas of concern, and includes a fair market valuation to support negotiations, budgeting, or contract closure.
A haul-out and sea trial are strongly recommended to complete the assessment and provide a full operational picture. This survey gives buyers and owners the insight needed to make confident, informed decisions.
Insurance (Condition & Valuation) Survey
An Insurance Survey—also known as a Condition and Valuation Survey—is required by most marine insurers to establish a vessel’s insurability and value. The survey evaluates the vessel’s overall condition, safety, and compliance with underwriting requirements.
The inspection includes structural integrity, propulsion and mechanical systems, onboard electrical and plumbing systems, navigation equipment, and all safety equipment. We also assess maintenance standards, repair history, and recent upgrades.
The final report includes both a current fair market value and a replacement cost, along with a list of deficiencies or recommendations that may affect policy issuance or renewal. This helps prevent delays and ensures clear communication with underwriters.
Damage Survey
When a vessel sustains damage due to collision, allision, grounding, fire, severe weather, or other incidents, a Damage Survey provides essential documentation for insurance claims, legal matters, and repair planning.
We assess and document the probable cause, nature, and extent of damage, supported by detailed photographs and clear written findings. Where appropriate, we provide repair recommendations and guidance to support accurate, defensible repair estimates.
Our independent and impartial reports help streamline claims processing and provide clarity for all parties involved.
Cargo Survey
Cargo surveys play a critical role in commercial shipping, particularly when loss, damage, or liability concerns arise. These surveys assess cargo condition and handling practices during loading, transit, and discharge.
We inspect packaging, stowage, securing methods, and compliance with applicable transport regulations. Any loss, damage, or irregularities are carefully documented.
Our reports help protect the interests of shippers, carriers, and consignees by minimizing risk exposure and supporting insurance claims or dispute resolution.
Valuation Survey
A Valuation Survey establishes the current fair market value or replacement cost of a vessel. This type of survey is commonly required for financing, tax planning, estate settlement, partnership dissolution, or charitable donation.
Unlike condition surveys, a valuation survey focuses on vessel specifications, build quality, age, equipment, and comparable market data. Physical condition is considered only as it affects value.
Our valuation reports are professionally presented, well-supported by market evidence, and trusted by lenders, insurers, and legal professionals.
